The Perfect Football Boots for Synthetic Sports Turf

Monday, June 7th, 2010

There are so many things to think about when it comes to football boots for synthetic sports turf – moulded studs, screw in studs and leather uppers – so we thought we’d provide a little guide for anyone who loves to have a kick-about every now and again.  We’ve specialised in synthetic sports turf for so many purposes; including team sports such as rugby, tennis and hockey, and in the education sector for playgrounds and nurseries, and also for landscaping and leisure. But football remains as one of the most popular reasons for using synthetic sports turf. And with the many clubs and organisations we’ve worked with, we’ve discovered a passion for football and all things surrounding it – boots included!  Here is a little guide to choosing the right pair of football boots if your team plays on Tiger Turf’s wonderfully non-abrasive synthetic sports turf…

  1. Studs – choose a football shoe with multiple rubber pimples or full length studs which can also be used on artificial football pitches.
  2. Uppers – leather uppers can be more comfortable as the material can mould itself to the shape of your feet. However, synthetic materials are often lighter.

We hope our super-quick guide gives you an idea of what you need to think about when shopping for your next pair of boots. We may not be able to kick like Crouch, Defoe or Heskey, but we’re spot on when it comes to synthetic sports turf. Here at Tiger Turf, we are the very first manufacturer in the country to become a licensee of the FIFA Quality Concept, so we’re pretty proud of our connections in the world of footy.   Fancy a kick-about? First World Cup Played on 3G Artificial Turf!

Monday, June 7th, 2010

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is going to be a World Cup like no other. Not only is this the first time in history that South Africa will be hosting such a large sporting event, but it’s the first time that 3G artificial turf is going to get a feel of prestigious World Cup football studs on its synthetic grassy plane.  The 64 exciting matches of the 2010 World Cup will take place in ten famous stadiums in South Africa; Capetown, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, Bloemfontein, Rustenburg, Nelspruit, Polkwane, Durban and Johannesburg, and Soweto. And for the first time ever, 3G artificial turf will be used by the world’s finest footballers for the biggest FIFA competition of the year.  Professional sports have been played on 3G artificial turf around the world for many years, but this is the first time that it’s being used for the World Cup games. As a FIFA approved synthetic turf manufacturer, we’re so pleased that attitudes are changing.  “I think it’s now time in this region to think about artificial turf.”Sepp Blatter, FIFA president.  Our 3G artificial turf is safe, non-abrasive and of very high quality. We were the first UK manufacturer to become a licensee of the FIFA Quality Concept and always strive to deliver the most dynamic and innovative range of artificial grass surfaces.  In the final days running up to the official start of the World Cup, we’re getting excited!

Artificial Sports Pitch and University Sports

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

College and university campuses across the UK offer students the opportunity to participate in a team and excel in personal fitness, and the artificial sports pitch has made this possible all year round.

University sports not only keep the academics of Britain fit and healthy. Sports teams can help students find focus in their lives, giving them something to work towards in an extra curricular setting. The artificial sports pitch has made it possible for teams to train and practice across the seasons, keeping them in shape and active through the year.

There is a huge social aspect surrounding extra curricular sporting activities, and is the ideal way to make new friends when starting university for the first time. Without even realising it, the creation of the artificial sports pitch is helping to shape Britain’s brightest people – socially, academically, and physically.

Amongst the many institutions in the UK, the University of Nottingham offers an expansive floodlit artificial sport pitch, and this area is used for football, hockey, tennis and provides a general training area. In total, there are six rugby pitches, twenty four association football pitches, five cricket squares, and two lacrosse pitches to keep the students at Nottingham University active and focused.

If you are interested in artificial sports pitches, get in touch with us today. Here at Tiger Turf, we offer synthetic grass for a wide range of sports including rugby, football, hockey, tennis and for multi-sport use.

Synthetic Sports Turf - A Swan’s Massage

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Synthetic sports turf has been used not only for football pitches and artificial gardens, but for quirky marketing campaigns too – but who knew you could use it to give swans a good old massage.

We’ve all seen the Innocent Smoothies van, completely covered in artificial grass – if you haven’t seen it, where have you been all this time? Artificial turf is used for so many other reasons than just sports. But did you know that the swans of Worcestershire use synthetic sports turf to get a good old foot massage? The Wychbold Swan Rescue Sanctuary in Worcestershire has spent around £2,500 on synthetic sports turf to give its 60 swans a nice massage after they’ve finished their swim. Nothing better than something to massage sore feet after a long hard day – what a treat!  A local vet had suggested that turf is a much better option than concrete, much healthier for swans, and can be a good way to avoid calluses. Swans are also prone to develop a condition called Bumble Foot which is directly linked with hard surfaces. Jan Harrigan, who set up the sanctuary 32 years ago, said, “Grass is no good because it would be ruined in no time due to the amount of waste they produce. At least with artificial turf it can be hosed down every day.” Let’s hope that the swans can enjoy this synthetic sports turf all year round…If you’re interested in synthetic sports turf, we can help you at Tiger Turf. Whatever you need it for – and I think we’ve already covered some bizarre stories – we provide quality turf at great prices. Get in touch today.

Should Your Club Buy Fitted Artificial Sport Pitches?

Thursday, March 11th, 2010
Okay, so we’re not going to sway you into wanting to buy fitted artificial sports pitches – let’s talk about the advantages and disadvantages.
Let’s get one thing straight here.  We’re not going to blind you with clever copy and the pleasantness of a super-friendly blog (although, we are very good at all that).  Here, we like to tell you all the good things and the not so good things and let you decide for yourselves.  Should you buy fitted artificial sport pitches?  Let’s discuss… At Tiger Turf, you don’t have any hard-sell salesmen who try to convince you that it’s a good idea to cover your entire housing estate with artificial turf (even though that would look pretty cool and unique!) So, let’s talk about the advantages and disadvantages… Why Your Club Should Buy Fitted Artificial Sport Pitches! Buy fitted artificial sport pitches and you can join fellow eco-warriors in saving the planet.  Pesticides and chemicals used to keep a natural lawn in pristine condition can be harmful to the environment.  Synthetic grass can withstand all weather conditions and is tough enough to handle any foot-heavy sport such as football or rugby.   Why Synthetic Grass is Not so Good Artificial sports pitches can heat up much quicker when the sun is out….don’t burn your feet now!  All in all, we think it’s fair to say that there are many advantages that outweigh the disadvantages, most of which can be dealt with in other ways (such as tougher sportsmen!).  To find out more about how you can buy fitted artificial sport pitches, browse our website.
