Synthetic Sports Turf - A Swan’s Massage

Synthetic sports turf has been used not only for football pitches and artificial gardens, but for quirky marketing campaigns too – but who knew you could use it to give swans a good old massage.

We’ve all seen the Innocent Smoothies van, completely covered in artificial grass – if you haven’t seen it, where have you been all this time? Artificial turf is used for so many other reasons than just sports. But did you know that the swans of Worcestershire use synthetic sports turf to get a good old foot massage? The Wychbold Swan Rescue Sanctuary in Worcestershire has spent around £2,500 on synthetic sports turf to give its 60 swans a nice massage after they’ve finished their swim. Nothing better than something to massage sore feet after a long hard day – what a treat!  A local vet had suggested that turf is a much better option than concrete, much healthier for swans, and can be a good way to avoid calluses. Swans are also prone to develop a condition called Bumble Foot which is directly linked with hard surfaces. Jan Harrigan, who set up the sanctuary 32 years ago, said, “Grass is no good because it would be ruined in no time due to the amount of waste they produce. At least with artificial turf it can be hosed down every day.” Let’s hope that the swans can enjoy this synthetic sports turf all year round…If you’re interested in synthetic sports turf, we can help you at Tiger Turf.
